Laughing Gulls in flight (below).
Sanderlings, small members of the sandpiper family, congregate on the beach in the evenings. They are fun to watch as they run toward the ocean to grab small mollusks and crustaceans and then dash away, dodging the waves. They a mottled gray, white, and brown with a white underside and have black bills, legs, and feet.
