I met Lucas, who has an infectious smile and a friendly personality, a couple years ago when we both took the Novel in 9 Months course offered by Jonathan Maberry and the Philadelphia Liars Club. When he announced his plans to hold a reading fest, I thought his idea was indeed awesome. However, I couldn’t make the first event on June 3 and had to sneak out early from the second on July 10. This time, I made sure that nothing else in my schedule interfered with the event.

More authors and listeners turned up than there were chairs. The readers, in order of appearance, were Lucas Mangum, Jeanne Denault, Damian McNicholl, Laurie Kellogg, Michael Ventrella, Donna Beckley Galanti, Janice Gable Bashman, Chris Bauer, Marcia Kroll, Al Sirois, Grace Marcus, Carmen Ferriero-Esteban, J. Thomas Ross, Vince Mangum, Theo Stieve, and Marie Lamba. Keith Strunk, with camera and audio equipment, recorded the event, and the audience awarded each author’s selection with a well-deserved, hearty round of applause.

About J. Thomas Ross

Since retiring from a career as a high school English and history teacher, I've been pursuing a career as a writer. My main interest is in writing novels, but I've also written short stories and poetry and done a little editing on the side. I am currently working on a Young Adult novel. One of my poems - "Winter" - won an award at the 2010 Philadelphia Writers Conference, and you can find my fantasy short story "A Rock Is a Rock Is a Rock ... Or Is It?" in the anthology Tales of Fortannis: A Bard's Eye View, which is available in print and Kindle format from Amazon and as an e-book from Double Dragon Press.
